I pulled the 6 cyl and auto tranny out of ny 70 mav, and am curious if this could be a 26 sline c-4, if it is i will go get it before it goes to scrap.
It will have 24 splines on the transmission side and 26 splines on the converter side. The only exception is the semi-auto C$ in 1970 that used 26 splines on both sides. Before 1970 all C4s have 24 x 24 splines with a smaller diameter shaft. If the shaft is larger than 3/4" then it is one of the 26 spline shafts. If it 3/4" or smaller then it is 24 splines on both sides.
Then you have a 1970 C4 that has not been updated. Normal for the 1970 C4s. The only problem I can see is that it is for a 200 six and it will have the lower capacity clutch drums. Finding new drums with a 26 spline is going to be difficult. You may have to go to the 26x24 spline shaft and get the 71 or later V8 drums in order to put 5 and 4 clutches in them. On the other hand, if you give Broader Performance a call they may have what you need.
