    re: "True 10.5"

Not to burst your bubble, but if your car can run near 5.0 seconds @ 148 mph
in the1/8th mile and you can cut a near perfect light consistantly, you've got
    a chance. (y)

I highly recommend you going to see a "True 10.5" race. You'll have this
look on your face for a week -->

Here's a link for tire sizes for comparison's sake: http://www.sstire.com/tireheights.html

    '75 Maverick, '03 super duty, '04 Mustang Vee-six!
P275/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A. That converts to 11.0" section (on 8" rim) and 28" overall height.

Rick's right. Those guys FLY! But, those kind of times are not always the norm at smaller tracks; I know of a place not far from here that runs a 10.5" class, fastest car there was "only" running 6.70's in the 1/8. There's a good reason too.....very little shut down area and very narrow/slick. I ran up there when I had 10.5 M/T ET Drags and it was a handful, even running 6.55-6.60.

Ahhh...brings back memories. I just might throw mine back together & go up there this winter sometime. Last time we went it was 107 in the shade, that is, if you could find some shade. They run year round. Now, I can't run the 10.5 class. I cant run outlaw street either....they don't allow backhalfed cars. Brackets only...besides...I'd rather run the bracket class & make a couple hundred bucks to win instead of spending $100+ on nitrous and winning a trophy. Just doesn't make good sense, at least not to me.

Mavman beat me to it. That's the size I used to run and it was too tall for my car as a slick but worked very well for a street tire.

mini spool is only $25.00 and extra center sections are easy to find for next to nothing at wrecking yards...
Couple hours of work and you're locked and loaded and ready to go racing...

That's too bad that the purses aren't that big at your local track(s).

Check out HOTRODGOSSIP.COM (it's hillarious btw - redneck racing at it's best - put on your thick skin if you want to post anything). The archives should show the purses the 10.5's are getting. Also, the "Outlaw" 10.5's get even more.

The 10.5 guys are getting $2,000-$2500 for a win at our local tracks (as I recall). Also, as I recall, the "Outlaw 10.5's" get even more.

It is definitely a blast to watch these guys run. :tiphat: to them for having the cahoonas (or lack of brain cells) to run those powerful cars down the track on 'skinnies'.

I used 3 3/4 BS with 275/60r15 on mine and it fit perfectly. There's lots of commotion about this subject around here and plenty of different answers to the same question.

Oh please don't! That site should be renamed "Illiterate.com". Anyone with an IQ above plant life shouldn't even type it in their browser.

275/50R15 looks to me the biggest tire I could get on mine with out sticking out past the finder ……..275/60 on mine would rub the inn fender lip …I was going for the fattest tire I could get under the car

    Tire Tread Width:

    10.0''

    Tire Section Width:

    11.3''

    That’s on a 15x8 rim with 4 ¼ BS

Unfortunately, I've known Joe Golden for ages. Personally...I'd shoot him but he's not worth the price of the bullet. As for the site, there's a guy here at work who is always reading that drivel. I told him it'll rot his IQ but he's a Chevy guy so you know where that will lead.

so would the 3.5 backspacing be ok to use..? or should i go with 4 inch backspacing so that i can switch tires easily in the future..?

    thanks
