whats up everyone. my names michael. i've got a 73 grabber with many shades of primer and paint on it, hopefully one day it'll be all one color. i just rebuilt the third engine that i've had in it. cant wait to take it drag racing. wanted to join this site and get to know other maverick owners. i'll try to get picture of my car up here soon. i love looking at all the different mavericks and comets on this site. noticed alot of great ideas and really nice looking cars. this forum seems to be a really great place to get information too. i'm excited to be here. -Michael L
welcom the guys here are great for the vast amount of experiance they have. If you have a problem they have gone through it and are the best to lend a helping hand.
Welcome Michael. You could'nt have found a better place for Maverick information. There's plenty of well-informed folks here who are more than willing to lend thier help and advice when it's needed. Good to have you here.
thanks thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. its nice to talk to other maverick fans. i didnt realize that mavericks had such a following until i ran across this site. this is cool. i'll have some pics soon, until then here's some details on what i've done with it. '78 351w stock bore, new crank,rods,flat-top pistons 292 degree wolverine cam w/.512 lift 69 closed chamber heads edelbrock performer rpm intake b&m 2400 stall converter and shift kit edelbrock 600 cfm carb i have a 4.62 spooled center section that i'm going to put in, but those gears might be too deep. i'm gonna leave the 3.00 rearend until i get the engine broken in.
welcome to the board. those gears are steep for driving on the street. will you be 1/4 or 1/8 mile drag racing. i use 4:33 gears for the 1/4 and am running through the traps at about 7200. might be good gears for the 1/8 though.
Wow. 7200 would be too much for mine. the bottom end is stock. i was planning on 1/4 mile drags, and figured that would be too deep. i originally wanted 4.11's but i found that center section already assembled with a mini-spool for $150 on ebay. couldnt pass up the deal. what mph do you get at 7200.
best so far is 11.96 at 115. that was in good air at firebird raceway in phoenix in january. ran 12.08 at the last race there with temp in the 90's.
