went to target and was looking for speakers for the maverick...picked them up for 30 bucks!! instead of paying at least 50 bucks..... and they sound like my dads bose speakers...it suprizes me that these cheep speakers sound good mabey someone up their is looking out for meyup:
Not always, but generally speaking, they all sound nearly as good as the other. It is often how long the speaker lasts that is related to price. Make sense? However, I have paid good money for speakers and had them crap out just as fast as cheap speakers.
Generally you really don't notice the difference in speakers till you get some real wattage to them. It takes a bit of tuning of the ear, but once you get used to good sound, its hard to go back to the average stuff. Don't get me wrong, I am as cheap as the next guy, but with audio you really get what you pay for.
same here but i got brand new speakers, amps, and a pioneer head unit got free. i think i have audio clips on my youtube just search for acmav289
i worked at a bose plant for a month during college, the acustimass setup had $30 worth of components in it.... and they retail'd for $650. my friend purchased a pair right before i worked there and he blew them on 100 watts within 2 weeks. i went down to radio shack and purchased replacement drivers for the sub and it kicked butt after, i also took the light bulbs out of the crossover. they were putting lightbulbs in for overdrive protection.
I paid $90 for the last speaker I bought. Can't remember the brand name Oh yeah, Flowmaster So, where do you even put speakers in a Maverick? Did the later years come with something other than that POS in-dash speaker?
I sank two 6" Pioneers in the rear package shelf for $10 each out of a flea market. I had to make the package shelf myself. They sound fine, Slayer comes through loud and clear, Nights With Alice is crystal clear and crisp.
I have Sony xplode's in my '72 that I bought in August 2005 (originally had them in my '74 Grabber). They are falling apart, but still sound good. I haven't been nice to them either, plenty of Metallica and what not have blared out of them. I had Polk Audio speakers before that, they sounded awesome at first, but literally lasted 1 month before the sun warped them so bad they sounded like crap... A buddy of mine had JL Audio speakers in his Prelude with a Sony head unit, and man, it sounded awesome. No matter how hard they hit, there was no real distortion to the sound. I don't remember what kind of amp he had.
Come on, nothing clear about Slayer. I'll give you the loud though. We get nights with alice up here on the local station. Great show. I think I might put a stereo in the Mav after all. Crank up some old retro tunes. Maybe some Megadeath to keep up with your Slayer.
There are mounting holes for 6x9's on the back dash and holes for 6.5's behind the kickplates up front.
I had Sony Xplod 6x9's in the back and some Pioneer 6.5's in the kick panels when I got the car. The Xplod's did literally fall apart like Jamie's. I attribute it to sun damage. (Of course, now the car has a garage and dark tint, so maybe the new ones will last longer...) The Sony speakers never had a chance to make a good impression on me. The Pioneers sounded good until my wife put her foot through one of them the first time she rode in it. Now, all four speakers have been replaced with Blaupunkts from Ebay. (And the front ones have grilles now!) They sound great, and didn't cost much. But last week my Sony head unit started acting up. The tuner is dead and it will only play CDs if I first flip it to radio mode and back. And then I can't control the volume. This is my second Sony stereo that's died on its own, so I'm pretty sure I've bought my last Sony car audio product. Gonna be in the market for another head unit soon, after the AC install... And the body work... And some more rear suspension work...
