302 for $50.00??

    I can get a 302 block which needs to be rebuilt...heads comes with it that is about it...is $50.00 good for that or should I keep diggin?

    I'd look at the block, if there are any freeze plugs missing or any signs of water in the engine, I'd pass. Other than that, it might be a good idea to pull a head and see what size the bore is. If it's a .060 over block, it's a boat anchor, actually, if it's .030, it's almost useless. You can get .060 pistons, but the cylinder walls are getting pretty thin for a Ford smallblock.

    Well for $50 you can't go wrong to much. Especially with a oil pan and timimg cover that is any good. I've seen the timing cover go for $75 on ebay just for that piece. If the heads are off look for rust pits in the cylinder walls. Is it a roller block and you're going to use a roller cam setup? If and when you get it, keep all the pieces you take off. If the 302 isn't any good the parts may come in handy on the next engine.
    First thing is why only $50? What's wrong with it?

    Make sure it has the main cap that originally came on the motor. I'd also check to make the fit snugly in the block as well.
