I'm getting closer to swapping in my 351W, and had a couple simple questions, I hope.

Are the C4 kickdown levers different between a 302 and 351W?

I would think the dip stick tube is the same from a 302 or 351W C4. Is this correct?

    Thanks!

Wow, that was fast! Thanks. Do you know if an FMX kickdown lever fits a C4? I know I have one of those laying around, but I will need to fine a 302/C4 kickdown.

I can't imagine they would be the same....a 351 is taller than a 302.

If he's talking about the kickdown rod that runs from the carb down to the transmission linkage, they're different. Just a simple change from a 2bbl to 4 bbl carb requires a different rod here. Bad thing is Ford didn't stamp these with any kind of ID that I've seen, so it's damned near impossible to find the correct one. I've got a half dozen of these hanging around from various applications

The rod has to be about 1 1/4" longer from hole to hole.

Yup, that's the rod I'm talking about. Looking for one for a C4 behind a 351W with a 4 bbl.

I know that two of the ones I have are from 71-72 351W's with a 2 bbl. But one at least had an FMX behind it when I pullled the engine. I don't believe there was ever a factory application with a 351W, 4 bbl and a C-4 transmission.

I have been working through this problem over the past month. There are two solutions that I have been able to come up with. 1. Take a 302 4 barrel kickdown linkage and extend the middle section by approximately an 1 1/2". 2. Extend each end of the linkage by using the Holley kickdown linkage extension. I believe the part number is 20–41. Yes, I know it sounds crazy. But I am putting a 351 Windsor in mine and have had the same issues.

They are different. The one on my Mustang with the 351W is taller than the one on the Comet. It has to be as the engine is a few inches taller.

Best thing to do is just leave that part off and downshift manually.

Just use a small hand tubing bender and make a new one. then flatten the ends, drill for holes and done. you can even make it out of alum tubing. use the old one as a rough template.
