Will it work? I don't have a 351W cam to compare it to, I know the firing order is different, anything else?
I think the cranks are the same, it just switches the firing order up on two of the cylinders to even things out and make a little more power. So insted of the cylinder being on the exhaust stroke it changes it to the compression stroke and it does the reverse on the other cylinder. But I could be wrong...
yes it will work , you have to use the W firing order instead of the 302 firing order windsor firing order- 13726548 302 firing order-15426378
I'll add another affirmative. I have a Lunati 351w cam in my 302. Just use the W firing order. The W order is said to relieve some stress from the 289/302 crank. Adding durability in theory. The Chevy guys have taken it a step further and claim it is worth 15-30 HP. I don't see how, but that's how it's marketed by the cam companies making the cams in the revised order. (SBC cams have the same FO as SBFs. The "revised" FO is equivalent to 351/HO)
It's 218*/.480" IIRC. Don't have the part number handy. It is pretty much same-same as a Comp 268, with a bit more lift.
They number the physical placement on the block differently. If you replace the cylinder placement on one, with the other, the orders come out identical. Edit: Here ya go... A block numbered as an SBC, in orange, of course... Then numbered as an SBF in blue. The black numbers indicate a straight up numbering of the firing of the cylinders, without regard to specific label. Count the black numbers starting with "1", then look at that cylinder's respective orange and blue number. They will line up with each other in the orange and blue firing orders at the top of the page.
Yep, there's only two firing orders for V8's. Ford's used both. The other brands just number the cylinders differently. There's so much in common between Ford's & Chebbys than many realize. The stroker 383 SBC is basically the Ford 390 reborn. Same firing order, damn near the same bore & stroke, same valve layout, same oiling system (except Chebby's got the oil pump on the wrong end) same distributor hold down clamp.
Thats how I build all my 302`s with the 351 order did it for yrs. My 289 in my 70 has a 351 cam in it right now. Its a comp extreme 4x4 cam and it works great.
