i hate to ask this cause i should do the trial and error research but im for saving time to get it out for next years carshow in fairview, ok. im wondering what the parts and measurements i should use in my windsor out of the cop car. so far i have some .60 over pistons lined up. beyond that i am open for all ideas so i can get everything ordered and get the engine into the shop. also does anyone know of any performance kits for the aod's. i dont know kinda like that tranny at the moment. thanks guys:drive:

351w is goin to be a pain to install and the AOD wont fit w/o mod , talk to frank (71gold) about how hard it is to install , is it a stock front end car? no M2 or anything like that? what do you want to do with the car? all race? street/strip? but alot of the stuff is up to what you want out of it

Stroke that 351 to 408 and go with a c6....the AOD is a heavy tranny

My turn! First, don't use a C-6, it's going to add insult to injury.

Second. If this is a street machine or a daily driver then don't stroke the motor.
To much side pressure for everyday usage. Use 30 over not 60 over for the street.

Third. If you haven't already done so cut back your shock towers. Life with a Windsor is bad enough without shock towers.

If I read your post correctly this project is for a car show?
I don't like sounding so negitive but a 351W inside our little cars is a pain in the backside.

But if you are going to do this thing about how deep are your pockets?
Lentech can help you with the AOD parts you are looking for.

If you are going to do this and want to stroke go with a 393 and not the 408 combo. Why 393? Because it uses the same rods as a standard 351W with 302 pistons and in most cases (not all) you won't have to clearence the block. Also less side pressure on your block and easier on your pocket then the 408.

If I was building a Mav/Comet for a car show I would stay with a 302 and maybe stroke it to 347. A TON less work!!!

As far as the tranny goes the AOD would be SWEET for the street and much better for gas mileage and if it's build right can hold a lot of horses. For racing on a 3 speed C-4 will not be beat!!! Lighter and SMALLER then the C-6 and with aftermarket parts MUCH stronger then a stock C-6.

Well I guess I opened another can of worms, and as always just my .02

Would I put another 351W into one of our cars? No way! Not knowing what I know now.

But I LOVE what I have!

    Do the 393w...
    Crank is inexpensive.
Pistons are off the shelf 302.
    Stock rods.

You get 40-some extra cubes for almost the same price as a stock rebuild!

The 393 sounds good. I just said 408 'cause that is what I have on the drawing table
