Has anyone that has put a 351w in a Maverick have the problem of it being too high and not being able to fit under the hood? If so what did you do to make it fit. Any info would help. I just found out that I seem to have this problem when I set the engine in this past weekend. Thanks

Well, was already planning on putting a shaker hood scoop on it, but the hood has to be level with the shaker. And with adding the shaker on top of everything, makes it even taller. Have a couple ideas how to work around it, but was just checkin if anyone else had some or any better ideas.

    No, not hood scoop

I've seen some mavs with 351W in them with stock or grabber hoods on. Someone with a 351W, please help this fellow with his issue. What are you using as motor mounts and from what? What is your setup?

Yeah i figured people have, thats why I have turned here for help. Not sure on the motor mounts, but they do bolt onto the 351, and then onto maverick, they might be 302 mounts but not sure. (Couldnt find the part number on them.) I have a Edlebrock performer intake, with a spacer in between a holley 4 barrel carborator. Then from there there will be a air filter and on top of that the shaker. The carburator alone would poke through the hood. Any ideas would be great.

the 302 and the 351 are the same motor mounts. the only way i think they would change would be if they came out of a bronco or truck (i think).. somebody else may know for sure. my 71 had a 351w with a 1" spacer and a holley 4 barrel. it fit fine.:)

What intake manifold did you use. Perhaps that is the difference in mine, but I'm sure everyone else have used upgraded intakes as well. So I still don't know why its so much taller. Also how much room do you guess you have between ur air filter and your hood, just curious.

351W with Performer intake, 302 Maverick motor mounts with 1/2 inch spacer between motor and mount. 750 Holley (Vac secondaries) no spacer. I've had a few different air cleaners but nothing has hit the hood.

Grabber 351...Why did you need the spacer between the motor and the mount?

all things equal a 351w is less than 2 inches taller than a 302. and i'm about to add spacers between mounts and block to move a header pipe away from the steering box. hits once in a while when cam shakes the engine.

I'm not sure I needed it but at the time It seemed to help with clearance between the header and the steering box.

I dont know how high yours sits, but when I had my stock front end in mine, the valve covers nearly hit the tower braces. I had to remove the braces to adjust valves. Also, the holley carb vents were about 3/4" under the 2" cowl on the hood. The Dominator carb w/2" adapater would not fit under the stock hood with that cowl. It was just the nature of the beast, the 351w is quite a bit taller than a 302.

    Re: Shaker

    I have a buddy with a '69 Mach I.
He installed a high rise 427 and wanted
to retain the original Cobra Jet Shaker.
He took a cowl induction fiberglass hood,
cut the cowl height and molded it to fit properly
around the shaker. I would guess that it sits
probably 3-5 inches higher than the stock shaker
    on the original 428 CJ.

I will attempt to post a pic, but it is with the
    hood open.

I actually had the same idea, I went and looked at a cowl hood scoop that would fit on the maverick (theres a guy that makes them less than a mile away from me), brought the hood over and everything to see how good the scoop matched up with the lines on the hood. So that is the new plan as of now, but I still am trying find some how to get the engine lower. You wouldnt perhaps have a picture of the car with the hood down to show how much was added and how it looks with the cowl and shaker on there would ya?
