so i'm trying to get a set of hooker 6901's to fit on to my comet. i just put a 351w in and the exhaust manifolds were hitting the steering gear box. so i purchased myself some 6901's from summit. i had to take a BFH to them to get them to fit around a few things but nothing to major. or at least thats what i thought. i just found out that with out moving one of the header pipes the pitman arm wont turn all the way. i would personaly like to be able to manuver around corners when i come to them. so my question is has any one else encountered this little problem. i finaly got my z-bar to fit in between the headers and the frame so pushing the pipe up into that space is not an option. has any one else had to move one of the pipes on the headers when installing them on a 351w. i'm not really too hot at welding. i know enouph to weld together my z-bar but i don't know if i can weld pipes that well. any info on welding exhaust pipes would be apreiciate also. i really want my car back on the road and this is the one thing stoping it.

Hey Guy...ran ito the same problem. As a temporary measure I took a piece of round metal and tapped in the header in that spot to clear. I was planning on rerouting the tube at a later date...that was 5 years ago and its still there :16suspect . At least it will turn now..but I had to dent it almost in half .

Those are not meant for a 351 swap at all.
Some folks have beat and bent them to work, but IMO it is the wrong part for the job.

There are several 1.5" primary swap headers for a 351w in our cars.
There are also larger (1.625" and 1.75") tube headers for 351w in other cars that can be made to fit ours with some mods. Mods that are probably easier than re-bending and re-tubing 6901s (or equivalent).

My pitman hit my Super Comps on my 302. A couple of turns of the control valve replacement took care of it.

    Power steering or manual?

it's got manual steering on it. i just took it in to have it rerouted at master muffler. hopefully they have it done today. then i could have it running again.
