Crusin' a junk yard the other day I saw a fairmont with a 4 lug disk set up on it. Then started thinking about it and could think of many cars that had a 4 lug disk. Everything I've read has been a 5 lug set up. Has anyone done or does anyone know which car to rob for this conversion? I'm kind of wanting to keep it 4 lug.
    Thanks,
    Dave:smash:

I suspect what you saw is as scarce as hen's teeth, and I would go get the set up from that car. I have a 4 lug 'Mont, and sure would like a disc set up without conversion to 5 lug.

dave, if they are as "scarce" as charles said they are i would check on replacement parts (rotors, cal. hoses and bearings) for them first. j.m.o...frank...:bananaman :bananaman

The 4 lug disc brakes you saw came stock on every

    1978-1983 Fairmont /Zephyr

1979-1986 Mustang (except the SVO`s had 5 lug) and in 1987 the 4 lug rotors got bigger but still stayed 4 lug through 1993.

All of the Fox chassis Capri`s

All of the fox chassis LTD`s /Marquis (the small ones)

All of the Thunder birds /Cougars 1980-89.

They are not rare, and they dont fit Mavericks/Comets;)

I thought they looked different thus the question. What car or is there a 4 lug set up that will fit the Mav? I would love to upgrade my brakes and currently I'm looking at going with a power assisted set up, but I don't like the brace used with power assisted. Ideally I would just use manual with front disks.

I think some Mustang places are selling a bolt-on disc brake kit that retains the 4-lug set-up. Used on early Mustangs. It is supoosed to bolt on to the existing spindle. That way you can keep your original wheels. Not sure who has it. Look/call around.
