Since I'm still waiting for headers to be made for my Maverick, I put in this toploader 4-speed into the Comet. It's a Liberty's Gear faceplated 4 speed set up for my high revving 331. The shifter is a Long Vertical shifter, so I just have to shift it forward and back. It's gonna be fun to try and drive it. I'll be racing it this weekend in Vegas at the PSCA race. Wish me luck my Maverick/Comet friends. Hope I don't blow something up
It shouldn't take much clutch, but I think you need to engage it slightly just to take the pressure off of the gears. It should shift pretty easy in all gears at full throttle. Its been a while since I rebuilt it, but I think that 1st and 2nd gear are pro-shifted and 3rd and 4th are face plated. I'll probably bring it to Barona one of these days. Maybe I'll see you there.
Seriously, you should come out and check out the race. There's a lot of amazing cars and Vegas is an awesome track. You can bring your car or your 5th wheel, its only 275 mi away from Surprise!
I'm tempted and I owe the wife a weekend out...but unfortunately she works this weekend. Dang! Not to mention those PSCA guys are wicked fast and put on a fantastic show!
