so I was trying to get the 351w i had lined up and I think it has siezed up so I also think I can get a 302 HO out of a 1987 lincoln. but I was just wondering how hard it is to get one in a maverick and how hard the wiring and everything is.
not too bad. just gotta know your way around wiring and schematics. and unless it's in a Mark VII, i dont think it's a HO motor. prolly just a 'normal' 5.0 like a LTD would have. 5.0 HO motors were in mustangs, lincoln Mark VII's, 91-93 cougars and t-bird's.
i havent personally done it yet but ill be doing it this spring.... but there's a couple guys on here that have done it before so they should be able to help
If all the EEC-IV wiring is pissing you off, you can get a megasquirt kit. They're cheap and effective, without being over complicated either. Painless wiring might have an engine harness as well. In fact, I'm sure they do.
Yep. that's the easy way, and if something goes wrong with the carb you can fix it with a screwdriver. Try that with EFI.
It's going to be something like that. '93 Cobra Motor and all the electronics. I DID NOT INSTALL THIS. This is how I bought the car and it doesn't look like it would be hard to do anyway. This is under a grabber hood if it matters. As stated, Megasquirt is the way to go if you don't want to use the Ford system. I'll be using that on the 408C that is going into this car in a few months.
It fits from what I have seen, however the stock tower braces don't fit unless you use a box style upper intake. This is a BAD thing! Your towers can sag just sitting without braces... much less driving! I haven't done the swap, but have thought long and hard about it. Personally I would use a box upper, since the car is so light, the torque loss is not an issue. But some folks have custom made tower braces.
yea man, you should definatly brace that thing. since you bought the car with that motor you probably dont know what we're talking about but on each shock tower there is a metal beam that ties into the fire wall area.
Yeah, I just noticed Phate's car there. I thought he just posted a pic that he got somewhere. Phate, do some searching on the site here for guys with EFI engines. You will find some pics of homemade tower braces. You gotta have those for our cars. VERY important. Your towers sag and bow in towards each other all the time, and your alignment is "variable" (for lack of a better word) when you don't have tower braces. I ran my 75 without braces for a very short time before I knew better... The towers sagged in over 2 inches! You can let the car rest on jack stands to get them back to put the braces on, or you can portapower the towers apart, which is what I did. I took them further than stock, then let the pressure off until the bolt holes lined up. Then I bolted the braces in before taking the rest of the pressure off. Just a heads up. It's one of those little Maverick secrets that no one ever tell you... Kinda like the "Don't use air shocks" rule with our cars. You don't have air shocks do you?!?
