okay here goes, i'm William Harris(look up my car on the maverick.to site) i have the 76 mav you see in my picture, it was a stock 6 car, but i have a 302 sitting in it that i cannot get my headers to fit, i also have in my posession a 351C with a 4bbl carb that i was told will fit in there without have to bash a header past my steering box.... i want your guys's opinion on which would be easeir.. i was told to fit the clevland in i'd have to bash in all the shock tower walls with a sledge hammer? if in doing so will it mess up anything critical(looks is not a big thing here)..... help please...

Just get a good set of headers that fit. I use FlowTech headers, don't know the part#, but they are 1 5/8" tubes, and fit great. No altering or bending. I did have to lift the engine on the drivers side to slip them down in. I can still change the plugs, and have had no problems. Hope this helps.

do it right man. If you don't have the parts you need right now, and can't afford them, especially a $150 set of headers, then you shouldn't be doing this swap now.

If you think stuffing a 351 clevland into your mav is going to be the easy way to doing something, boyyyy are you in for a surprise.

If a sledge hammer is seriously your tool of choice for this job, then you need to get out, NOW before you ruin a perfectly good maverick and send it on it's way to the salvage yard.

Not trying to be harsh on you, it's just that we can't all afford to do what we want with our cars (me especially) and tend to want to make shortcuts.

Take the time to save up for the proper headers, and drop the 5.0 in, or take time to shave the shocktowers the proper way and drop that 351 in.

dont have time, dont have any more money, and i need a running car... and i dunno what you're talking bout beautiful, this car is a 4door sleeper, i'm not in it for looks im in it for working......

lets go back to the begningin.....

i boutght this car for $100, started it up, and drove it home, came with an inline 6 250 to start with.... had leaky valve seals and just didnt have the guts i wanted it to tho it was pretty quick. lost my liscence for a year so during that year i traded off my 78 nova for a 302. after sitting in the car for 4 and a half months i finally found the v-8 frame mounts i needed. next came the oil pan, hurst indy floor shifter(still not installed), and headers. when i tried to put in the headers, the drivers side would not come past the steering box, and kept getting in the way of the shock tower, so we had to cut out where the header would sit if it were bolted up, but the steering box is still a problem, and the header ends what it looks like is right in front of the transmission crossmember. we also had to cut some of the passenger side shock tower out to get that header to fit, but the same problem with the tranny cross member.

now would it be easier to put the 351c with stock manifolds in there? or just beat the header till its shaped right to fit and keep the 302.... either way, one of the two engines is going in my van, and the other is going in the mav.......

Putting the Cleveland in would definitley NOT be easier.

Do you have pictures of the beast?? I would love to see your shock tower work so far.

If you need it running now and you don't have much time for it, just keep the 302 you have in it and slap a set of stock exhaust manifolds onto it, hook up the exhaust, and drive. Headers require some time to get on the Mavs/Comets, so go with the manifolds if your don't have any time for headers. I have a set if you are interested.

I dont have any new pictures of it, but i do have some of what it looked like right after i bought it, before the stripes and cregars, and shackle extenders. but it seems with the 302 in it, it sits alot higher than it did with the 250 in it.... or will that fix itself once it gets rolling again?

Just wondering, if you say you have to beat the headers in and that they exit in the wrong place, ETC. do you have the right headers?
