I think the shifter location would be an issue but it will be interesting to see what others have to say.

My guess would it be too close to the dash but that is just a guess.

That transmission is really big and the shifter is mounted at the center of top cover, putting it forward relative to the factory location. The M5R2 in the 89-95 Supercoupe is essentially the same transmission with the shifter location moved to the tailshaft housing putting it close to the correct location.(measurements would need to be verified, of course) Both of these use a hydraulic slave/release bearing assembly, by the way.

The T5 much smaller, comparatively, and there is plenty of help here if you happened to need it.:yup:

The Mazda trans is strong, but in my opinion, the size and clunky, shifts like a truck feel isn't what I wanted in my Maverick. Another option is the Tremec which is similar in size to the T5.

M5r2 transmissions don't come behind a 351 in any fords, it would be a ZF pretty sure on that because I spent all of last year trying to find a ZF to replace the m5r2 I had in my bronco.

M5r2 also is not a strong transmission. The rods the shift forks glide on commonly get bent and stuck in gear, the syncros supposedly wear out very quickly. I replaced the top plate on my m5r2 twice within a year. As well as replaced the internal slave cylinder once every 3 months.

But, I really doubt a m5r2 or a ZF would fit into a mav/comet. I know nothing about a rear mounted shifter version of either though.

Might be important to also mention, both have integral bellhousings. And I have both seen for myself and heard through others that the m5r2 has some serious weakspots in the bellhousing and can be easily cracked.
