Any potential problems cutting holes in the lower front portion of the doors to put 6.5" speakers in there? Anyone got a pic? Dont want it to interfere with window or locking functions. I am running 350 watts to shake out the rust, lol.
I would just be sure to seal the back side of the speaker in some way so that it does not get damaged by water.
Damm good idea, I did that to my truck I forgot to do the car. I guess I need to take mine back out. thanks Jamie
They should fit, I have 6x9s in mine. I put some urethane foam thingys around the back of the speakers to protect them from moisture. Audio stores sell them. Whatever you use make sure it's flexible. If you surround the speaker with a solid enclosure it has to be very big or ported in order to have enough air for full excursion of the speaker cone.
would marine (boat) speakers be best? Also, can anyone post a pic to show where exactly it can be safely mounted? I'm trying to get a more clear idea.
If you wanted to you could just put them under the kick panels. There are holes there on most mavericks and the kick panels themselves have a "template" of sorts on the back side of them to be cut out for rectangular speaker grills. Then just find some speaker grills out of a old Jeep wagoneer and they will fit in there perfect!
Thanks! I didnt think it turned out all that bad considering that those kick panels came from this car.
Cole that looks great. I see you're running Pioneer speakers, what size are they 5 1/4? and how do they sound from the kick panels?
They are actually 6.5 speakers (180 watt 3 way speakers) What you really have to look for when mounting speakers in this location is the mounting depth of the speakers, too deep and they will be touching the backside of the door hinge bolts, also you really cant keep your foot operated e-brake with this setup. I myself am very pleased with the sound that I'm getting out of my system. I'm just running a cheap $99 Pioneer cd player, 3-way 6.5" pioneer speakers up front and AC Delco 6x9's in the rear from a new model oldsmobile.
Hey, I have a 73. Which has the e brake on the dash. I'm running a Pionner DEH-1900MP CD Player. With Pioneer 6X9's in the back. So the 6.5 Pionners bolt right in without modification? I know 5 1/4 will fit that's what they came with from the factory if they had a 4 speaker stereo.
