I'm having my '63 manual transmission repaired (three on the tree). It makes noise in first and second gear. The guy looking at it suggested I start looking for a replacement transmission if the parts are necessary once he takes it apart.

What does everyone recommend? Are there places to purchase individual replacement parts like the cluster gears? Mac's doesn't seem to sell all of the parts I might need.

Is there a better transmission to drop in this car (with the original 170 engine)?

I'm looking for any advice here.

Have you tried Napa for parts? There's no drop-in trans for your year engine. You're stuck with the 2.77 If you had a '67 or later engine...they came with dual bolt patteren for the bellhousing then the 3.03 fully synchronized or T-10, Toploader 4-speed will bolt-in but you will still need to adapted a cross mount
