Latest... 73 Project. I bought this car last summer, after taking my oldest daughter with me to look at it, she fell in love (that's the story and I'm sticking to it) As far as I can tell, this car was brought to Ontario from Arkansas in 2003, disassembled, and changed hands twice.. It's a factory 302 A/C car, brown with white stripes and a white halo top (yuck) Since it's brown, I don't feel bad for not restoring this one, this will be my Hot Rod. So the process begins. I've finally had the time to move some stuff around in the garage, and can start tinkering with my 2nd 73 Grabber. Since I like to start with the jobs I hate the most, I started removing that black goo that sealed the windshield to the body. Anyone that's had to deal with this stuff will know what it's like. Also found some small rust spots in the leading edge of the roof.... Shouldn't be a huge deal, it'll be some good practice for me and my mig welder.
Looks like a pretty solid car. I like the idea of one restored car and one you can get creative with.
Im sure the black goo was made to punish anyone who has to touch it. I cant wait to see how this one progresses its bound to be stunning!
Can I say never....I'm really trying to keep this one within the $6-$8000 range. I pretty much have everything for this car. Everything for the small bumper conversion, a full black interior, 93 roller 302, C4.... I'm thinking Crown Vic disc's all around (junkyard stuff), and Mustang 17's..... No Grabber hood, and I'm taking the Grabber spoiler off the car. All I have bought for it so far, is a windshield gasket, and a black headliner. I need a trunk gasket, but everything else will be re-used...
Dave; Sounds like a great project! I like the idea of a low buck hot rod. I think I'd leave the spoiler on though, just because it adds some visual weight to the back end. But, that is just me. Good luck with it!
"Also found some small rust spots in the leading edge of the roof" you can thank the halo top for that...
This will be fun to watch. As nice as your other '73 is, I have wondered how you'd do a car if you weren't adhering to the constraints of a proper restoration. How do you intend to do the Crown Vic discs in the front?
I've talked to 2 different guys now, one has done it, and the other makes a kit for the rear. Since they are even more plentiful than Explorers in the auto wreckers, they are pretty cheap. They can stop a huge Interceptor, compared to a little Maverick, they should work pretty good. But we'll see. I did some sanding and stripping on the roof last night, whoever glued the second top on, really liked glue!! If I make any progress tonight, I'll post some pic's.
