Hi: Still toying with different styles/types of wheels for the Comet...its a big decision so taking my time..what with clearance/fit etc... Was wondering if anyone is running the 15 inch styles steel wheel 7 or 8" now available? I thought they woud look good but concerned about clearance's. I have a modified ride height and running a 9 inch Ford (slightly wider than stock) and Cragar Quick tricks. 15 X 8 with what appears to be a 3 to 3.5 back space. 255/60/15 TA's . No clearance issues. The styled steels 7 inch provide a 4.25 BS and the 8's have a 4.5" BS. If anyone runs these on their ride or know of some who does/has, let me know please. As the saying goes, once you buy em they're yours" and I want to make the right choice. See attached. A 255/60-15 will hit the leaf-springs and inner fender wells with a 4.5" backspace unless you run a wider rear-end.
wheels Rear 15X8 With a 4 1/2 in Backspace and 255/6015 there is clearance of about 5/16 in to spring and suspension bumper brkt there is aprox. 1/4 between sidewall and fender lip, I am going to space these out with a 1/4 spacer. Front 15X7 With a 4 1/4 in Backspace and 215/6515 there is tire rubbing the the frame rail behind the wheel on full turn. I am going to space this one between 1/4 and 1/2 in. 3 3/4 backspace on the front is about maximum unless you dont mind spacers.
On mine, 255/60-15 clear the springs, but hit the inner fender on hard launches. But work fine after I rolled the inner fender lip. You shouldn't have a problem, since your car sits so high above the tire. Looks nice, by the way!
I don't think I've ever seen those wheels on a Maverick, I wonder if they fit over the stock Maverick from disc brake rotor?
