Is it possible to replace a press in head stud? Is it expensive? I'm looking at some rebuilt 68 heads touse on a 75 Maverick, but one of the studs are loose. Thanks in advance Bob
If it was me...I take them to the machine shop and have screw-in studs install. While you're at it have them cut the the pedestals down for guide plates and buy some harden pushrods.
Easy to press in. If the hole is worn, used to be able to get oversize or knurled studs. But like others said, if the heads are off the engine do them up right.
"Back in the day" we used to drill them and tap in a roll pin to lock them into place so they could not pull up. A cheap way to solve the problem of rocker studs pulling out.
The best fix is to have the pedestal milled (with or without guide plates) and have the screw-in studs installed.
