6B or 10B Timing on '74 302 ?

    Please look at the chart below. This scan is also in my picture album in my gallery.

    Can someone tell me why Ford went to 10-12b degrees ignition timing for the 1974 302 and then went back to the 6B? Does this make sense to anyone else or was this just an attempt to retard performance for emissions? Should it be okay to run the 6B with no problems?

    Those were the early emmisions years they were probably messing with cams

    70 mav, 71 grabber, 73 Comet, 2004 f-250 crew cab diesel, 2001 f-250, 2004 explorer, 2007 Gold Wing trike.
    try it at 6. then try it at 10. see which it likes better. probably won't make a lot of difference. see which one gives you better gas mileage without hurting performance. you won't hurt the engine with either one.may have to change the idle speed a little, but that's it.:)

    '73 Maverick 2-door, V-8
    I run 12 degrees BTDC initial timing. Gives more low RPM torque and better throttle response. As long as you don't have pre-ignition happening, it's perfectly fine. Never exceed 38 degrees total timing...

    I will try it at 6 and 10 and probably every degree in between to see what it likes. :) Thanks for all the suggestions/help. :tiphat:
