as far as the 4 bolts on the end of the axle tubes (I got that), but is there a c-clip inside the center section on a 7.5?

Yes there is. Just remove the back cover, remove the cross pin retaining bolt, remove the cross pin, push the axel inward and remove the clip. Then just pull the axel out of the tube. I do not think you need to remove the backing plate at all.

Good question. The rear seal on the 7.5 in my '69.5 is leaking and will need replaced. I won't be doing the 5 lug swap immediately, and will need that 7.5 to hold up for about 6 months after I start driving the car. I looked all over that rearend and cannot figgure out how to add gear oil to it.

Should be a plug on the side of the cast part of the housing above the pinion centerline.

yeah thats why I was "trying" to pull an axle. After some thought I realized every axle I have ever pulled had a spool....I usually pull one axle, jack car up on its side and fill....much easier for me.

That's the way I have to do mine as I have a Maverick 8 inch housing and an early Falcon center section without a fill plug.:slap: (The falcon 8 inch has a fill plug in the housing)

why not pull the cover and put a "fill plug" in the top side at the level you want the fluide??? then put a "drain plug" at the bottom of the cover or housing to drain the fluide? a little work but not as much as pulling an axle each time you want to add or change fluide.:yup: ...frank...:bouncy:

If you want to fill the rear, you could pull the breather out (brake line hooks there) and fill through that hole. You will still have to pull a axle for proper fill level. Dig around an make sure no pipe plug is there. 7.5 should have one in that area where you took pic. Good luck

Yea that's what I thought. I never touched the rearend, just looked to see if I could find a plug. I'll dig around on it with a screw driver next time I'm up there...

The '74 5 lug rearend I have under my '72 has a plug in the side of the chunk. A regular 3/8 drive rachet with a small extension fits right in, very easy to add and check the fluid.
