I have a 1970 maverick and a 351 windsor. Do the tubular automotive headers bolt in without modifications? I did not realize the 351 would not fit until after i purchased the engine.
I would do a search ....but as far as I know the mods would be minimal if needed at all. There was someone recently who just used manifolds and got it to fit fine...it should come up with a search
I don't know of any headers that bolt right up. I had to use 302 manifolds and had to grind the drivers side down a bit to fit.
Welcome! Good luck with the installation. I swaped a 351 in place of a 302 and used the 302 duel exhaust system in a Torino. It sounded like a tuna boat going down the road.
Bad thing about the Tubular Automotive headers is the 1 1/2 inch tubes. There was a small group that bought the Crites Headers (1 3/4) a while back perhaps one of them can shed some light http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=49075
I thought I saw various sets of hooker headers from summit that stated for 302 c.i., for 302 w/351 heads, and for 351 c.i.
Exhaust options: Stock v8 Maverick manifolds. (Bare minimum) Tubular Automotive headers. (Small 1.5" tubes-even for a 302, expensive-same price as the larger tubed Hookers) Hooker headers for 351w in a 1965 Stang. (Decent 1.75" tube size, expensive, mods needed to engine bay) Crites 351w swap headers. (Less expensive, same tube size as Hooker, limited production) (Needs a small engine bay mod, nothing as extensive as Hooker) There is supposed to be a Hedman part too. I know nothing about it other than it has small 1.5" tubes. I thought it was discontinued long ago, but apparently not. The 302/351 headers listed by Summit are either a typo or ignorance. Those headers fit a 302 in our cars, but in other larger cars, they can work on either a 302 or 351. They carried that fact over to all the cars the header is listed to fit, not paying any mind to the tight engine bay of the smaller car. There have been several folks mislead by that Summit listing over the past few years. You'd think Summit would correct it.
Thanks for the help. I might just go with the stock manifolds. I do not want to modify the engine compartment.
