i have a really nice gas cap from a 73 i want to put on my 70

i took the filler tube off and was going to replace it with the one from the 73 because i thought they would interchange, well they dont, at least it doesnt seem that way because the bottom of the filler tube is flush with the spot the other one sat on

any way to make it work?

Change filler neck to a later style neck and vent the new cap. This would be the easy way out.

Is the '70 "drop-in" tank compatible with a later filler tube?

i noticed the only thing stopping the 73 gas cap from going on the 70 tube is the lip on the spot where you twist the cap on, i was thinking of taking a dremel and cutting it down, any thoughts? :dunno:

Might need to tweak the neck either by cutting the length or/and bending. A muffler shop can take care of the bending and the chop saw for the length. If possible, find a '75 or later neck. It has the door inside and then you can fill the tank at full speed.

Doesn't one cap have 4 tangs and the other 2 tangs?

I had to do this to mine. Took the smaller tangs off where they need, and drilled out the stopper in the cap, so it is vented. Seems to work ok.

nope, they both have two, they seem to be the same style neck, except for the fact that one has a much larger lip than the other

not quite sure, i figure i dont have much to lose if i take a dremel to it, ill get on it tomorrow, maybe the cap i have is off a different year

    thanks for the help guys
