I know, this is a GM transmission, but there are a few guys running them in their cars, so even though it's in another body, the question is still a good one. My 700R4 will not shift into overdrive when it gets hot. When you start out cold, it will go in at about 60 mph and stay unless you drop down below about 50 mph. But once the trans warms up, if it ever drops out, that's it. It won't go in again until it is completely cool. Fluid is full, has good red color, no burnt smells. TV cable is adjusted to pull all the way out at WOT, I have the geometry corrector linkage piece attached to the Edelbrock carb. I've searched online and can't find anything about one doing this, most of the time they won't go in OD at all if there is a problem. I also think it has had a shift kit installed, it will hold first and second gear a while before it shifts, but when it does shift, it will sit you back in the seat! Really firm shifts on 1-2-3. I'm thinking something must be expanding in the trans when it gets hot, and either sticking a valve or blocking a passage. Any ideas? Probably not anything that I can fix, but maybe I can tell a tranny shop to look for?
Post in the transmissions section of the Hotrodders forum, there's an ATI employee that helps out a lot there...
Thanks for the link Russ, that looks like a great site. As if I needed another board to join , looks like I could kill some serious time over there! I guess the question is a moot point now, anyway. Sold the Vette last night, now looking for another in better shape.
