Ok guys lemme give you an update on my build so far: 72 comerick, 302 .030 over w/flat tops, 351 heads, rv cam, edelbrock intake & 600 carb, hooker 6901s, 2.5" pipes will dump before the axle, c4 auto, original 70s torq thrusts 14x6 front 15x7 rear and poliglas rear rubber, 69 bronco 9 inch with 3.50 gears and trac lock, and b&m hammer shifter.

Now being born in 94 I didn't get to experience the 70s but thats the style im goin for. Soooo maybe some of yall could give some opinions on how my parts correspond with my style choice; especially shifter choice and what hood scoop to run besides grabber.

    Thanks, john

I got a stock maverick hood and a mach 1 style scoop I could put on but I aint decided on it yet. I was thinkin maybe a polished air cleaner scoop through the hood but idk

Btw im near Clermont, and its good to know I'm not alone around here :D

1: Mavericks cannot be "Street Rods".

2: There are some things from the '70s that should remain in the '70s. If it were a somewhat stock-looking Grabber, that would be cool, but the whole Jacked-up rearend with tires that stick out past the body, with side-pipes and the ugly "bread-box" hood scoop is abominable. It's right up there with shag carpeting, platform shoes, and plaid polyester leisure suites worn with big-collared shirts.

3: Run some tailpipes out the back.

1: Call it a hotrod, street car, street machine, restorod, restomod, custom, musclecar, daily driver, or cruiser. I dont care as long as you dont call it a rat rod after its painted

2: As far as jacking up the rear end, I don't drive em stock and a lowered car wouldn't make it off of my dirt road. Come on man the early 70s was the peak of the musclecar era, their bodies were all about being high in the back. I like my tires wide and on some cars they can look good sticking out.

3: Maybe if they came through the rear valence...

Depends on what part of the 70`s your lookin for. I was allways a fan of the 79 to 83 era look. Just got done doing the chroma tape to accent the interior of my f100. Lets see a pic I`ll help ya out

    Larry,
Was your Avatar photo taken in the Seventies? I can't help but notice "the jacked-up rearend with tires that stick out past the body". Lol

it comes down to you. it sounds like you know what you want for your car. the only advice i have is to be smart with your modifications as to their effect of safety operation of the car.
air shocks have been proven to destroy the shock mounts on the body. extended shackles can damage the frame rail from having too much side leverage. also when ever used the leaf springs seem to flatten out. the ones that came on my car are actually bent in a s shape from the shackles. the proper way is to get custom leaf springs properly arched for the desired height.

Sounds like you've got the 70's look down pretty good. I agree with Larry about the exhaust run out the back. The Boss 429 hood scoop was popular in that era and looked better than some of the other options.

I’d say “do your homework”, don’t worry, this is the fun kind! There are plenty of muscle magazines, hot rod books, posters, ad-copy and 70’s movies to peruse through! Check out Bullet, Crazy Mary Dirty Larry and Two-Lane Blacktop. Ok, Bullet was in 68 but you get the idea.

You can get a since of what was cool at the time or what “you” think is cool and incorporate that into your design build. Sounds like a cool project to me!

Build it the way you want it... Just pay attention to the safety aspect, that is the questions you should ask about... I'm up in Ocala, you should plan on coming up for the Silver Springs NPD all ford show in January...

I was born in 94 and going for the same look as you lol. For a hood I'm running a stock maverick hood with the comet hood scoop makes it look mean without drawing too much attention away from the rest of the car. On the back I'm running 10 inch tires which give it an aggressive stance and mean traction. For the whole 70s thing I'm gonna run some metal flake paint. Shag carpet. And fun fur on my dash. You also gotta remember to make the car all your own. That was the big thing in the 70s not just style but actually making the car from your own imagination that's what caught people's eyes at shows.

Yeah, that's funny. That picture is at least 10 years-old, and those wheels/tires were not on there for very long. I currently run Magnum-500s with 235/60s, and the car sits pretty much level. It may have a 1-inch rake.

    :yup:

If you really want the 70s look, get some Crager SS mags or chrome reverse wheels w/ baby moon hub caps.
