i was wondering if anybody knew how the antenna is removed on my 71 maverick? im doin some audio upgrades and wanted to swap it out with a different more streamlined lookin fancy antenna but just by lookin at it it doesnt appear to just screw off from the top and i dont wanna try without knowing first. So whats the verdict people...screw from top or do i have to come in from behind the fender?
    :hmmm:

Pop the chrome cover off, and there are 4 screws into the fender, then the wire feeds down into the passenger side kick panel. There will be a hole in the fender the size of a quarter.

Comets had 4 screws... the increased top speed required higher antenna base structural integrity. ;)

This IS a Comet antenna from this fender. I should have known better using the substandard Comet for a part car to donate parts for a Maverick. :p

Actually it was because they rusted out so fast. It gave them a few extra months before it just fell off going down the road.

Some do...some don't. Just depends on if it is factory or not. I have never seen a factory one (on a Maverick) that did.

I left my antenna off. Maybe I'll do a tiny one somewhere else on the car. Like on the roof or trunk lid.. Just don't like having that tall one in the fender either.
Now I just have a hole there - which is arguably less attractive lol
