MPanka72 submitted a new car to the Garage : 72 Grabber Restomav *in Progress* Read more about this garage here...
Looks like your car was equipped with big bumpers. That would make it a ‘74 or newer Maverick. Still a great project though!
it actually had loosely fit bigger bumpers on it when I got it, which is what I thought too, but none of the mounting brackets showed witness marks of having been there from factory.... the underside of the hood, and trunk were a different color, and really digging into it, someone BRUSH painted the outside of the hood, trunk, front bumper filler piece and the rear rubber filler pieces where the Grabber extensions would meet the trunk spoiler... Something was fishy about the whole thing, and after running the vin, what I think was, someone went Way out of their way to make this car look like something it wasn’t... what I found was, this car was originally a 72 white/blue grabber V8 car on blue (I edited that... I had black in my head, lol, but it was a blue interior..) ... it still had the V8 mounts under the hood, but why someone would strip a car of everything grabber, and leave the vin is beyond me.... the title is legit, at least matches the dash vin.... unless it wasn’t their car and sold off all the Grabber parts... to make a sleeper? Who knows... lol For me though, it really matters none what it was, but what it’ll be when I’m finished with it... I have some ideas in my head that I’d like to try and make happen,,,, and being a fabricator for 25+ years, I think it would be something no ones ever seen on a Maverick before..... and I’ve got most of the parts to prototype my ideas... I just need To find the time.. What I will say, is it’s got to do with a similar idea as the taillights on the car, but still keeping it Maverick to the eye.....
I would bet that the vin stamped on the front apron would tell a different story. Not sure if you plan on removing the fenders but I think I would to verify the hidden vin matches the dash. The reason I say that is the vin tag comes off with the dash which makes moving it to another car relatively easy. Too many indicators with the car that point to that.
You make a good point, in fact I do plan to pull the fenders... thanks for the tip! I’ll be sure to pull them and double check if everything matches or not...
As long as the powers that be recognize the title as legal you shouldn’t have any problems. Would be interesting to know more of the history. Will be watching for your progress!
I agree, not like our cars go for mega bucks. Be a little different on a six figure car being represented as original. Not much different than a rat rod on a modern chassis using the modern vehicles paperwork.
