Ive been working on my Maverick for the past few months so I figured its time to make a thread to document and share my progress with all of you.

So I first started off with my trunk It had a lot of surface rust so I removed as much as I could and I applied 3 coats of Por 15.I m still going to add a coat of paint on top but for now it's good.

Next I removed the vinyl top.It was still in good condition but it was rusting along the vinyl trim so my teacher convinced me to remove it.It wasn't too bad ,I had couple rust holes along both windshield moldings.I got those welded up along with the holes

I removed the carpet and found some more rust.My passenger side floorboard is shot so I might get a mustang panel and go from there

I replaced all of my front suspension with moog parts and kyb shocks. I bought all of the following from rock auto and I had to get my idler arm from NAPA since no one else carried a power steering idler arm(which I haven't installed yet).I also got Roller spring perches from http://home.bresnan.net/~dazed/opentracker.

This was my first time taking on a big suspension job.My teacher let me do it at school on our lab day of the week.So I did 1 side of the upper suspension each week and I got both sides of my lower suspension done the following week.So it took me 3 lab days so overall 3 weeks. And I aligned it myself at school just to be able to drive it for now.I was going to take my car to a spring shop to get the leaf springs re arched but the guy told me to first fix my height on the front so now I am going to cut 1 to a coil and half. But instead of rebuilding the leaf springs I was thinking of buying new ones and saving money by doing the labor myself.I have new kyb gas a just shocks from the Nissan pickups ready to go into the rear as well.

Looks like you have it under control, nicely done, there are guys on here that would love to have that red interior you have in your car, be careful of what you do inside, you could hurt some feelings on that!

Today I spent all my day working on patching the holes on my rear winshield.I had to make a panel and that took a lot of my time, my teacher helped me on bending it and stretching the metal to get that curve.I got it welded and I grinded as much as I could before time ran out.Since it was where the seam met my teacher melted off the led.I am going to grind the welds and touch up couple little holes on Monday and then I should be on to my passenger floor pan. I just started welding couple months ago so my welds aren't great but it is what it is.For now Im riding around without a rear windshield :drive:

I got some work done since I last updated.I got the left side of my window done and I moved on to the rust on the right side.It rained over the past few days so its been difficult rolling around with a trashbag as a rear window but Im close to finishing up on the window all I have left to do is clean off the old paint , block sand and reinstall my window

You are defiantly going to learn how to weld. Looks good. Thank god the car I have was 99.99% rush free aside from a pin hole here and there.

Today was my first day without getting any help from the teacher..he was real busy so it was just me and the welder haha.At first I was making holes but I got the hang of it.By the end of the day my teacher said that my welds were looking pretty solid.Practice makes perfect.

It's been a while since I last updated this thread.School started and Im working on the Mav again.Im taking a refinishing class so the teacher is letting me paint my roof in class as long as I learn how to spray first. So I sanded the roof down to bare metal there's a lot of little dents due to the vinyl top (I'm guessing).Luckily my teacher said we can clean them out and apply filler over them however there's two holes that he recommended welding up. One of the holes is noticeable and its on the center of the roof. So my teacher mentioned removing my headliner so we don't burn holes trough it when I weld the hole. I was thinking I could drop the headliner down a little from the drivers door without having to completely removed it. What would you guys suggest?

Another thing I wanted to ask is what should I apply on the roof so it doesn't rust over the weekend? Im going back to school Monday morning,I park the car outside since I don't have a garage. I started applying filler already where the old vinyl trim nails belonged but overall the roof is exposed to rust. I covered it with a car cover last night but its already starting to rust. I applied wd40 last week and it helped but I had to clean it all up when I started working on it again and that took some time. Should I just get a primer rattle can and spray it?
