    According to the Dorman wheel stud book the knurl is .545 for a 73 Maverick rear stud.

    Is that for a four or five lug rear end?

    In 1973 all were 5 lug.

    No they weren't.... I have a 73 6cyl parts car that has four lugs per wheel. I think there mat be an early and late 73 - My daily driver is a late 73 but I haven't checked to see what the build date is on the parts car, I guess I will have to do that ....

    My 73 must be a late car then. It's a 6cyl with 5 lug.

    I have never seen a 1973 with 4-lugs. Would love to know a build date and see a picture.

    I just checked the parts car for a door sticker - there isn't one on it but I did pull the VIN off the dash - maybe someone could decode it to see if it has an 8" rear with four lugs or the smaller rear end that only came with the four lug arrangement.
    Vin = 2K92L210916
    There is something in front of the VIN that resembles the classical Ford "F" in a cursive font. If there is a way to find out from the VIN when it was built or what equipment it came with. If not then it will forever remain a mystery. There are others who have had 73's with four bolt wheels so mine is not the only one. as for it being transplanted? It all looks like it is the original rust under there. No bolts that stand out as being out of place or disturbed. I doubt that it has been changed.

    That VIN decodes to a 1972....NOT a 1973.

    Maybe that is why it is a 4-lug. :D

    Plus....it is a 250 6 cyl car......which in 1972 would have meant 4-lugs as well.

    I still stand by my statement of ALL 1973 and up Mavericks being 5-lug.

    Then it is an early 73 because it has the big front bumper. We all know that the 72 cars didn't have the big bumpers. It is a 250 six cylinder. So either I have a 72 with big bumper or a 73 with four lug wheels - which do you think is more likely?
