Ok. So. New battery, New alternator, New voltage regulator, New starter solenoid, and new fusible links...vehicle starts and runs fine. I have 14.50v @ the alternator, and 12-13 v at my battery. my problem is that at the starter solenoid, my output voltage is @ 8-10 volts. Usually9.50. I have been driving the car like this for over a year with no problems. I had a stereo professionally installed, and there's not enough voltage to turn it on! Any help would be appreciated.thanks in advance!
Do you mean it has 8-10v while cranking??? If so that's not really out of the norm... Assuming the lights are of expected brightness, can't really have a voltage issue... Can't comment on the sound system, suspect hookup issues...
It has me baffled. The 8-10 volts is while running. there's a drop somewhere before the starter solenoid. It goes from 13.5 and then ends up 9.5
Now keep in mind, the alternator is putting out 14.5 and the battery is 12-13V while running. After the voltage takes it course, it comes out at 9.50. When it comes to the lights, they all work fine, and when it comes to the dummy lights, the oil light is much brighter than the alternator light... Hope that helps... And thanks for the response bro!
The only component between the alternator and solenoid(to battery) is the fuse link... They do have some resistance but should not be dropping voltage more than a couple tenths... Maybe has incorrect link? Things to think about... If you don't have a good body ground that may be skewing your readings... Lights at 9.5v will be noticeably dim... The electronic voltage regulators often only light the charge indicator bulb at half brightness... Solution is clip the 15 ohm resistance wire across lamp and add 500 ohm in series with the 15 ohm(Actually 200-300 ohm would be fine)...
Well the headlights are good and brite, but that alternator warning light in the dash is noticeably dimmer than the oil warning light next to it. When the vehicle is running, both light turn off... Has me stumped
I added to my post above about the alt light brightness, have same issue with my Fairlane... On my Comet I cut one end of the 15 ohm and added 470 in series with it(newer vehicles use 500 instead of 15)...

Oh my there is a glaring error in that diagram, probably isn't obvious to the non techie types... Before you send the Holy Water out for analyzing check the container, if it's a glass beaker as appears on diagram, that's a big problem... Container must be a ash wood cup that's soaked for 40 days & nights in a 17% salt brine solution... Cup must hold exactly .666 liters and be filled with no more than .444L...
So it wasn't the holy water. But I did find the solution today. I had high resistance in my ground coming off the battery. I added a second ground and the resistance was gone. Stereo staying on now, but I'm still getting low voltage to the gauges. Constant10. V. Should it b at 12 or is 10 normal after all the loads on this old beast?
