If you want to donate me feel free to do it Some photos Inside Engine Engine right now [2010.04.04]. small step forward, ofc. not finished yet. 2010.04.04 current view: edit: King of the city [old photo after he arrived from harbour ] Best regards Evening
from the USA up in Northeast Pennsylvania Very nice looking Comet. It sure stands out sitting in that parking lot with all the newer European cars You have come to the right place - you will get all of the help that you need here Good luck with your rebuild
beautiful car! you should get the shop manual, they are not too expensive on cd: http://www.gearheadcafe.com/servlet/the-773/1975-dsh-1976-Ford--fdsh--Lincoln/Detail
I'm searching a repair book and found: Ford & Mercury Mid-size (75 - 86) HAYNES img of book: http://www.theautobookstore.com/v/vspfiles/photos/1850103887-2.jpg someone got it and its worth to buy?? its a lot of comet info? thx for answers
Ok I definitely needs your help and your knowledge base, I want to start the mods. It is a TIP for increase HP/tourqe from my engine? 75, 302 cid? In start I want to do this cheapest that I can right now. How to start, what parts I need. What I need to know, please gimme any answers, coz I m hungry of informations. I need also a knowledge base about parts, which will be supplied for my car.. I m very considering about Ford parts.. I m scared coz there a lot of parts.. And i cant buy parts and ship to europe if they will not fit.. Is there any secret where will be the best prices on the parts?.. I hope you will not be angry on me for my silly questions, and you will be very patient for me. thanks a lot regards evening edited: some photos Question: This part in yellow surround. I never seen that in pictures on board, no one got this.. Its for emission control? Do I need that? If no which parts I can remove from there? I want to make a cleanup near the engine. A little trip
It's part of Ford's emission reduction system. It connects to the "smog pump" and is called air bypass valve. The system pumps air directly into the exhaust manifolds to help burn any unburned hydrocarbons. I think the valve prevents hot gases from going into the pump.
there are lots of things that you can do to improve the performance of that motor. the smog pump uses a lot of horsepower. you can remove it and plug off all of the hoses. you can get headers and put them on. lots of info on what headers work well on these cars on this site. just search headers. a dual exhast system will help. puting on a aluminum intake and 4 barrel carb will help also. you will want to do headers and exhast at the same time, and you will want to do the aluminum intake and carb togther. puting a torque conveter with a higher stall speed will make it feel like it gets up and goes faster from a stop. regearing the rearend will help it accelerate faster also. you need to consider the intended use of the car before you choose a rear gear ratio.
To do: 1st: remove smog pump 2nd: dual exhaust system 3rd: remove A/C this can help right? someone is selling this part near to me.. http://cometic.com/da_viewimage.aspx?da=215 it is for stock engine? or after mods? i thought gasket are cheaper :]
Those are special head gaskets for high power level engines. You dont need em...They will not give you better engine performance.
I was reading a lot of increasing power in 302 on this board today and I m still confused. If I change 2bbl carburator into 4bbl for example Holley 600 CFM. If everything will be stock '75 anything will change whit HP/torque? How many can I to gain/lose after replacing carb?.. And 2nd question Holley or Edelbrock? Maybe something other?
Holley or Edelbrock - either is OK. I like Holley carbs because I know them better and can tune them more easily. For a novice the Edelbrock is a bit more forgiving and is more of a bolt-on and go carburetor. You will have to select a manifold to go with the carburetor. If you use the Edelbrock carb then the Edelbrock manifold is a good choice and it fits their carb better. Get a "Performer" series manifold as long as the engine will turn less than 5500 RPM. There is much that can be done to add power without spending a lot of cash. 1. Set the distributor for less internal advance and increase the amount of initial advance. A good mechanic can help with this and offer advice on where to limit both. The 302 performs best at around 34 degrees total advance with 14-16 degrees set as initial advance. (not counting vacuum advance) 2. Use a 180 degree F. thermostat 3. Gap the plugs at .030" to .035" Make sure the fan shroud is in place on the radiator and the radiator is in good shape. Running slightly rich will increase performance and keep the engine running cooler than slightly lean will. Long tube headers 1.5"-1.625" tubes with dual exhausts and an "H" pipe will increase torque and give better performance. 2.25" to 2.5" tubes for the exhaust pipes will serve you well and with a good pair of mufflers performance and sound will be better. Increasing compression to match the octane level of the fuel that is available to you is a good idea - when you can afford it. Here in the States 10:1 compression is good but we have 91 - 93 octane gasoline. Talk with a local machinist about what can be tolerated on your fuel. To raise compression a little you can have the heads milled but to make all the gains you can will require new pistons to bring the compression to the maximum for your fuel. This is part of a total rebuild with all new bearings and a good balancing of the engine. Having the valves ground and replacing the cam and lifters is a good idea when rebuilding the engine. You should select a cam that will fit your use and driving. On the street and below 5500 rpm you should select a cam with less that 218 degrees of duration and at least 110 degrees of lobe separation. Lift should be kept below .48" at the valve. If you decide you want to turn the engine faster than 5500 you will need to have screw-in rocker studs installed or replace the heads with an after-market set, like AFR185 (from Air Flow Research). If you go higher than 5500 rpm you will also need a different intake and a larger carb and a torque converter with a higher stall speed. You can upgrade your automatic transmission with a TransGo Reprogramming Kit #40-7 and by adding a large transmission cooler in front of your radiator. This will make it perform better and last longer. It is a "do-it-yourself" kit with complete instructions.
