I got my Maverick when I was 16, it was a gift from my Grandfather who bought it new. It was a 1976 white 302 2 door Maverick. By the time I turned 19 I began rebuilding it, 11 years later I am months from completion. It has a 302 bored .30 over with Edelbrock Perform RPM heads, intake and carb. I installed an MSD ignition box and dressed up the engine. It is completely repainted with NOS quarters and fenders, and a 72 Grabber hood with new striping. I also pulled the front and rear bumpers in a few inches and installed a front and rear spoiler. I then began on the tranny. I pulled the automatic and put in a 4 speed Toploader with a Hurst shifter. I then installed a Currie 9 inch rear with a 4.11 gear. Inside I replaced the bench with buckets from a 72 Comet GT (5 bucks each at a junk yard). I then installed a set of gauges inside where the radio used to be. Next I put on a Grant Steering wheel and replaced the steering wheel collar with one from a Maverick that was a stick shift. I am now installing a Brazilian tach and speedo, which I calibrated for MPH so that it registers 200 and is accurate. I still need to fix the loose steering, put a set of wheels on, and put some finishing touches on. I am sure I am forgetting something. Once that is complete I will share more pictures. Great job on the board, I have been a silent reader for many years!!!
Pretty cool that it was your grandfathers, my first car was a 72' Maverick back in 85', and my grandfather had given it to me. I had a lot plans for that car. I have a lot of great memories . . . I finally got rid of it, and now years later I regret it, one the biggest mistakes I made. Glad to see you held on to yours!!! Smart decision! So, where are you from?
Moral taken... my 77 shall never leave my posession, regardless of it's current condition. Now to find somewhere the wife won't find it....
Matt just tell her it will be A LOT easier to put up with the car still being there, than to hear you cry and complain about it for the 'rest of your life', and to continue to hear about how much you regret getting rid of it, and it's her fault for making you get rid of it! Hey it's worth a try!!!
Beauty is the Beast Great job and worth your years of effort. You are an inspiration to a new owner like myself and proof positive that it can be done.
