i have a '91 cougar parts car that has a 5.0 HO that i plan to use in either a mav or my old mustang. i know the trans is overdrive but i was wondering if it was an AOD or AODE.... and why people dont like to use AODE transmissions in their cars. any differences/benefits between the two???

any info is always appreciated (y):drive:

The AODE needs the computer to control it. NO speedo hole, it's an AODE if I ain't mistaken.

As long as the tailshaft has the gear grooves cut , you could swap tail housings.

My '91 LX 5.0 Mustang was an AOD,I don't think the AODE came out till 93 or 94.The "E" has a push button to work the overdrive.

I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
AODE was first used in 94 in the Cougar and T-birds,, The AOD is an awsome transmision,,, Very good to use,, that trans was used from 84 to 93 Cougar T-birds,,, All the AOD and the AODE have speedo pick up holes,,, and use an electronic pic up unit. just be carefull of the 94 AODE, It had alot of issues, the problems where a spot welded drum inside that would break loose,, and the Accumulator spring broke,, The 1st to 2nd would not or sluggish shift, The V8 trans sport 2 extra clutches.
