Some have seen this on my intro post. Thought I'd better start a build thread.

Bought a 69.5 Mav a few weeks ago that had a non-running 351W sitting in it. The plan is to build a 1970 Pro Stock "clone" or tribute car. Trying to be as faithful to 1970 as possible.

Parts gathered so far? Glad you asked.
Rust free car, 1970 4bbl closed chamber 351 Cleveland with 24,000 miles on a rebuild (wanted to do a 429 Boss car, but reality stepped in right now), Weiand NOS tunnel ram (will be using a pair of 450cfm 4bbl carbs since it will be street driven), Moroso aluminum valve covers, RUG-BJ1 wide ratio top loader, billet fly wheel, a pair of lightweight bucket seats, Grant steering wheel, lightweight aluminum 19x26 radiator, 9" rearend housing to narrow with a 3.70 posi center section, Fenton Gyro 15x11 rear wheels (still shopping for the matching fronts), and as a concession for street use, a set of 28/7.50x15 front and 29/12.50x15 M/T Sportsman Pro tires and a Tunnel Ram I hood scoop.

    Here's a few pics.

Had Cougar taillights in it. Replaced the rear panel to get it back to stock.

You can also see how much the rearend needs narrowed. Will be flush with the body sides, leafs moved inboard and mini-tubbed as they did back in 1970. Also moving the front shock towers out 3" per side for more room.

Looking for 4bbl Cleveland header ideas.

    Looks somewhat familiar :D

I went just a bit deeper with my gear choice and put a set of 3.90s in my 9 inch.

Here's a 1970 picture from Kar Kraft, showing how much the suspension was moved outboard on those cars.

Looks like you've got a great start.
Although my Maverick was never a ProStock car, it was a B/SM NHRA car back in 1979 with a Boss 302 and 4spd. I really wish it had never had the shock towers shaved.
Back in the day I raced a 427 63-1/2 Galaxie and a 68-1/2 428 CJ/SCJ and my heart really belongs to the FE motors. If I ever get the chance to build another street car I'd love to use a SOHC.
Keep the pictures coming and good luck with the build.

If your heart is in the FE family, maybe you'll like one of my pickups.

Original 80,000 mile 352, Mustang T-5, my parts chaser (when the weather is nice).

Considering putting this on the '66 F100, but it gets 18MPG at 2000 RPM going down the interstate with the T-5. I don't want to loose that, but this would look cool on it.

If that doesn't do it, how about a unibody that's geting a 430 Lincoln/auto, Ididit tilt/shift column, CON2R custom steering wheel, low back buckets, big back window conversion, traingulated 4 bar, Dakota/Industrial Chassis front suspension?

The Maverick and unibody will be built at the same time, side by side. Just retired from work and 25+ years of racing. Selling a bunch of race car stuff lets me fund projects a little easier than my normal build rate.

    Thanks for the interest,
    SPark

That tail panel looks really good. That was amazingly fast going in. Car looks great so far.

I also retired a couple of years ago and have gotten back into racing (35 years in SS classes) after being out of it for 15+ years just to have fun.

Very, Very nice looking F100 and I like the color.
Is that a Ford C3AE-J dual 4 intake...................if so it's the best street dual four for a mild big block............and with progressive linkage I'd think that not putting you foot into it should give you pretty good gas mileage.

A friend of mine in college had a 57 T Bird with 430 Linclon........and it was a monster.

Here is a video that should warm your heart...................it makes about 100hp more than my 408 and runs on pump gas.....................This is what I would love to have..................if I could only find $38k lying around somewhere.

Or, even one of these in a little Maverick would really be a hoot.

The panel went in quick because you sold me a nice, straight piece! Thanks a bunch, like it so much better than the Cougar stuff that was there.

Picked up the top loader yesterday. Was also supposed to get a Lakewood scatter shield from another guy but it turned out it only fit a Tremec and not the top loader. Shifter is a write-off. Looking for a V-Gate/RamRod type shifter if anyone has one they keep tripping over.

Got the front tires mounted on some skinny wheels to work with fitment/shock tower move. These wheels will eventually give way to a set that matches the rear to keep things period correct.

Got the radiator mocked in (19x26 aluminum) but haven't made the top mount yet. Bottom is sitting on the stock Mav mount. Did have to trim a half inch strip from the outside corners of the front crossmember to get enough room. Will have to weld/plate that area to regain what I cut away since it is the strut mount.

Mocked up some seats. Need to remove some risers the previous owner put in there. Also need to get rid of the purple. Getting ready to bend my roll bar and get it in place.

Shopping for subframe conectors. May build my own from 2x2x1/8" to keep them close to the floor pan.

Tomorrow going to try to get the Windsor out of there. Then tower work can get started!

Looks pretty cool. I am debating what hood to replace the "Ole 70's Hood" that has been on the car for over 34 years with something a little more functional, just not sure which way to go............
    Will be watching your build!

Nice new Lakewood scattershield showed up today. Got a Hurst Super Shifter bought to keep thigs "period correct" (found out the V-Gate wasn't available until mid '71 so that was out). Now I can mock the engine compartment up to see where to make tower cuts to move them out. Let the fun begin!

Picked up a set of brand new Appliance/Black Jack headers for a 302 Boss in a 64-66 Mustang yesterday for $125. 2" tube and 3.5" collector. That will be the basis for my header set. Anyone by chance used these (or tried to use them) on a Maverick? Wanting a head start on where to cut them, where they would interfere. If nothing else it's a nice set of flanges and collectors with some bends!
