I have a 97 ranger 2.3 5spd with 204k miles. A while ago it got to where it was hard to downshift to 1st. Now its gotten to the point it will not release at all without forcing it in and out of gear. I checked the fluid and it is not low. Any advice on where to start because I am bad about throwing parts at vehicles and don't want to waste a bunch of money lol. thanks for any help

I have an 82 Ranger, same engine and trans with lots of miles. First, make sure all the bell housing bolts to the engine are tight. Most anything else will require trans removal. Does the clutch feel the same, or has it gotten a loose feeling? You might try bleeding the clutch, but if the fluid wasn't low, it probably wouldn't help. :)
