    hello fellow owners:

    my car:
    1977 Ford Maverick 250/inline6 4.1L

This beast has 4 drum brakes?
From what I found, 77s had disc brakes in the front.
I did the control arms and the brake brackets look stock and
unchanged and I doubt the previous owner would reverse brake
technology. I've read the 75' was the last 4 drums.
I pulled the front drum and it has about 2.25 width surface.
I'm going to pull the rear to compare the size/no biggie.

My question is did Ford make a 77' with all drums?

All were made with disc by '76 - some in '75 were still drum but that was the end.

Are you sure your Maverick is a '77?

pretty sure...I got old DMV paperwork(previous owner), old smog report matching VIN and 11 digits...starting with 7K9.

Either the info about the '77 not having drum brakes is incorrect or you possibly have a re-VINed vehicle that is a earlier model... Of course brakes could have been swapped but that doesn't seem likely...

Seems like it might be a 75 - popular swap is drum to disc but not disc to drum so I don't know why anyone would want to convert a 77 disc car to drum brakes - does your car have the big bumpers on it?

Give us your VIN number from the top of the dashboard on the drivers side - find it by looking down at the dash through your windshield - the old paperwork you found might not even be for this car :)

......... and the drivers door jam - look for the ID plate and see what that says. Compare that to the dash VIN.

Take a picture of it and we can decode it for you.

Oh, one more '77 thing. Does it have an emergency brake pedal or a handle you pull ........

No mystery. If it is REALLY a 1977....somebody has changed out the brakes. NO....and I do mean NO 1977 Maverick came from the factory with disc brakes.

I know of a 1977 Maverick running around with 4-lug front drum brakes and a 4-lug rear axle. Why? Because I sold the kid the parts to do it. He bought a 1977 Maverick that had the disc brakes and rear axle robbed for a swap to another car. He wanted to get the car on the road and as cheaply as possible. He didn't want to fix it right....he wanted to fix it cheap. Hence....it now exists.

1975-1977 all had the foot pedal parking brake.

Which is why I asked. Cause if it has a pull brake it would be another reason it could be an earlier drum brake car. :)

Is that the VIN from the dash and the door jam sticker?
