As it relates to a 72 GT
    1. Was the tail panel blacked out? and with what type of black paint.
    2. How was the front grille painted? and what colors specifically?
    3. Was the hood blacked out?
    4. Is the Comet script placement the same as Mavs.
    5. Is there anything else unique to the exterior of the GT besides the striping.
Also would lke to see a pic of the correct gas cap and I assume you can't decipher if the car was a GT by Vin number.
    Thx Rick

I'll help you Rick. Here are some answers, but call me to discuss: 919-645-3131

1.Taillight panel was the same satin/semi-flat/40%gloss black that Grabbers had. Taillight pods were the same color.
    2. Front grilles in '72 seem to have had the metal strips which are not visible from a distance. Satin/flat black and argent/silver rib highlights. See my webpage under my username for pics.
    3. See same webpage.
    4. There was no 'Comet' emblem on a GT anywhere other than the dash. There is a promo pic of one on the fenders like std. Comets, but I have never seen a real GT with them.
    5. See my webpage for correct deluxe cap for '71-'73 cars.

Earl I'm thinkin of converting the drag car back to it's original Comet look in the off season.

    Go for it!
My 72 has blacked out tail lights/panel
silver stripe on the black grille
Not sure about hood but when I got it, it was all black/scoop and all.
Its not black w/ a red scoop.
I had no script on the sides either, and my car had been repainted all red w/o the stripe
Only place I've seen comet is on the dash and i think on the decklid but that may say mercury

My dad's '71 GT had Comet on the front fenders behind the wheels. The car was 100% original stock when he got it. I had pictures of it where you could clearly see the emblems but I have no idea what I did with them. It also had the Mercury emblem on the right side of the trunk lid. My dad still has all the emblems from the car in his tool box where they have been since 1985 when he took them off. They look like new.

That would be the first GT that I have seen actual pics of with 'Comet' scripts on the front fenders.

Yea, my dad said they were on there when he got the car in '84. The car was bought at an estate sale and he said it looked to him to be all original. Wish I could find those pics. I put them up somewhere so that I could find them easily, go figgure.

Look under general section & go to "I have 5 again". I have posted pics of the latest GT. I have more pics & can take specific pics if you so desire.
