Is there any way to repair the face plate? I have notice that the wording is worn in places and hard to read. Anything I can do out side of finding a NOS replacement?

You can repaint the wording ... or the black inserts are removable. Find a nice used one reguardless of the color as long as the black inserts and lettering is nice ... and swap them.

I needed a new faceplate with the rear window defogger. I found an NOS one but it was for a NON-AC car. I bought it and swapped my original insert that had the A/C lettering on it ...

That sounds intriguing. Is silver leaf some kind of paint? And if so, why would you use an exacto knife rather than a small paint brush?

I'd like to see that silver leaf thing. Can you write a small article with pictures?

Silver leaf rubs off easily doesn't it? Do you clear coat it?

I'm thinking you silverleaf the frames of the slots for the switch openings ... not the words. The words were painted white from the factory.

Dan; I might try it with some 'Bare Metal Foil' that model makers use. I have used it in the past, and it seems to work ok. You would need to clear coat it, to make it more durable. Sounds like a winter project for sure...one that can be done inside!

I used Testors Silver Enamal Paint Marker to do the slot trim on my Grabber Heater Bezel and also the Trim on the instrument Bezel on both my Cars. The 74 has an NOS Heater panel with the Rear Defogger Slot.

Pictures would be cool. I'm sure this is a common problem, so any/all solutions would be welcome!
