I have a 302 that I just installed in my maverick. The engine came out of a 67 cougar (its a 71 302) but I havent any idea how the alternator brackets are supposed to work with my application because the brackets interfere with the heater hoses and the dipstick tube. The brackets came from the cougar and the water outlet on the water pump from the cougar is on the passenger side and of course the maverick outlet is on the passenger side. Is this possibly the culprit? I dont remember how the accessories were on the 67 cause it was in 2002 that I pulled the engine. I bought the summit 302 billet alternator brackets and they dont work at ALL. The real question is are these brackets maverick specific? And if so where can I score them? I appreciate everyone's time and patience, I haven't used this board this much since the last time the Maverick was taking me to highschool!! Thanks, Kyle P.S. the only engine driven accessory is the alternator
a photo would be the best. whats a heater? heaters are for wimps... but reallyy the heaterhoses shouldn't be in the way.. i mean you can always reoute them. the dip stick also can move or rotate.. you'll probably just need to reseal it after you pull it out. also the waterpump iexit s on the wrong side at least form what you describe. mavericks exit on the driverside however i don't know how that would interfer with the brackets from an alternator. the brackets for the alternator should be able to get them at any mustang parts house. as far as the ones you got from summit.. they probably don't work cuz its for a later water pump... if you change that.. (which probably should other wise you be looking for another radiator too) the bracket should work. but remember this is aftermarket stuff. nothing bolts right on... prepare for washers and shims to get it to line up. good luck let us know what happens
mav man says that cause he lives in la where it gets down to a chilly 20 in the winter, not here where it gets up to a balmy 30 on the really nice sunny, warm winter and spring days. the hose off of the pump is always a little "kinky" unless you want to go through the work of creating an elbow set up for it of some kind. the 68 cougar we had came stock with a 302 and had exactly the same setup as the grabber. as long as its not kinked closed the light bend should do fine.
