Last summer I bought a 1972 Maverick from a junk yard dealer. It's a 2 door with the orginal 302 in it. The transmission leaks a little, but I can deal with that. The gas gauge does not work-it goes past full when you crank it. I dont know if its a wiring problem or a bad sending Unit. Any suggestions? I'm glad ya'll are here-everyone is tired of hearing about this car. It will be good to talk to folks that actually likes Mavericks.
Welcome to another Georgia Maverick Nut from a Columbus Georgia Maverick Nut. Where in Ga. are you from?
Howdy and welcome. Disconnect the sending unit back at the tank, Its a 2 wire connection that will pop right off. If the gauge goes to empty, its the sending unit. If it stays full its somewhere else. Might be the little voltage regulator on the back of the dash, the gauge itself, or as Dan said, a grounded wire somewhere between the gauge and sending unit.
Thanks for the hint. I looked at the tank and it too has been rigged. The wiring is old and the connection does not fit well. Does the unit itself have a ground? I am having some small wiring problems(tinfoil in the fuse box, exposed wires, etc.) I'm going to get a new connection if i can find one. Any help is appreciated.
