Greetings everyone. I have a 1974 comet with a 250 in it... power steering but no power brakes! I would like to know if anyone has any advice on how I go about installing power brakes. Where I should get the parts and what needs to be done.

    Thanks!

It depends if you want a stock setup or something not so stock. Do a search on here and you will find a couple of different ways to convert to power brakes. But if you decide you want something stock, I have the adaptor and support that these cars were originally equiped with.

I did a power convertion on my 71 . I have pic of booster in my gallery of the booster . The booster is from ABS POWER BRAKE in orange ca. web is abspowerbrake.com The booster looks like there part#9782 but you will longer mounting studs to mount the booster to the fire wall . The studs need to be 2-3/8 " to 2-1/2" long . You will need to open up the hole in the fire wall about 1/16"so the booster will mount flat .

Wow!!! That makes my Escort conversion seem like a big waste of time. Any other parts needed? Does it look like it would clear clutch rod? Do you have the diameter of the booster? Will it clear the stock shock tower brace? I went to their web sight and its only $300 for the booster and master cylinder. Think I will go that route from now on.

Application is for 63-69 Falcon, Ranchero, Comet V8.

The one for the falcon looks like the one they made up for my car . The size of the booster is 6 1/2 " O/D it looks like it will clear the clutch rod and the stock tower braces are no problem. The length of the master booster combo is 9 1/2" from the firewall to end of master . If and when you order make sure you give them the push rod length and get longer fire wall mounting studs . Stud length need to be 2 3/8" to 2 1/2" long this is one problem i had with my unit and had to send it back for longer studs . You will need to open up the hole in firewall about 1/16 ''to 1/8 '' so the booster will set flat on firewall .

    hope this helps JAY

P.S. The port. valve i used is adjustable one and i have 4 wheel disc.

If you decide to go the stock parts route, the main parts needed are the underdash pedal assembly, the firewall bracket for the booster & master cylinder, and the special shock tower support that wraps around the master cylinder & booster. You'll also need a disc brake proportioning valve, and the brake lines will need replaced/rerouted. The best and cheapest way to accomplish the conversion and be sure you get all the parts you need is to find a junker 75-77 Maverick or Comet with power brakes and buy it all. Sometimes you can find a beater 4-door still running but on its last legs just as cheap as trying to buy the parts alone. There are others on the board that can probably help supply the stock parts too, but if all else fails and you want to pay a HUGE price, you can email me direct and I think I can set you up with everything you need. Good luck.

Those boosters are based on the Geo Metro boosters, modifed to work with the Ford Master Cylinders.

Thats what I was thinking, I have the GEO booster sitting out in the garage, maybe I'll pull it apart and see if the new master cylinder I have will fit?? (Sorry for the high-jack)

So if I buy the ABS power brake booster/MC combo do I need the pedal assembly from a power brake car? I have a manual transmission so I need to keep my clutch pedal
