Is there an adhesive remover I can use that won't harm my paint? I need to remove side molding that is put on with adhesive strips.
Do a test area with Laquer thinner to ensure it won't harm your paint. It should remove the adhesive without damaging the paint. I believe that's what the body shops use.
3M adhesive remover, or pull the molding and use a drill powered adhesive/stripe remover wheel to get the rest off.
Be careful with the 3M stuff, it can be pretty aggressive, and can craze the paint. I just went through this with one of my leased vans. Use a heat gun, just don't get it too hot, then follow up with some auto body pre-cleaner, it'll slowly soften the glue, then rub it off with your finger. Hopefully the paint work, is good quality, and it didn't damage anything.
Here's what I use:http://www.goofoffstainremover.com/wheres-your-stain/car-stains-spots It works very well, and has never hurt any of my automotive paint. It quickly emulsifies any adhesives, and you can easily wipe it away. I like the aerosol the best. :Handshake
Heat gun used cautiously should get you most of the way there. It should roll up pushing it with a finger. Don't burn your paint or your fingers! So you can have time to let the remaining goo soak up the cleaner, I'd finish up with mineral spirits or paint (not lacquer) thinner.
Thnaks all I gave the trim a tug to see how hard it would be to get off and it came right off with no problem. Then got some goo-gone and most of the adhesive came off easy. The stuff I am really having to work on is what looks like bathtub caulking. It is comng off slowly. Not sure exactly what the heck it is but not the same as most of the adhesive. Almost all gone now.
