'74 Maverick, with a Carter RBS 1bbl on it... is there any way to lean out the idle mixture on it? It's running a bit too rich for my tastes...

adjust the choke, adjust the idle/fuel screw towards the front passenger side of the carb... adjust the idle selonoid..

adjusting the idle screws clockwise will lean it out, counterclockwise will make it rich. A good rule of thumb is to turn the screw all the way in, then out about 3 turns, and adjust from there. If you have a vaccuum gauge, you can perfect it by hooking it up to manifold, and adjusting the screw until you get peak rpms.

do you have a pic?? I am used to the v8 carb, but usually it is in the front of the carb on the bottom under the float bowl

Ok, here's your pic... is this the idle mixture screw? and would it best be adjusted after total warm up?

I think this is it... it's the only other screw (the idle stop is the other) I can find...
