where it is right now, try going up 1 notch and see how it works. If you go too high it wants to put torque on the lid and it doesn't sit square to the quarter panels. It wants to be higher on one side then the other. Just put a short piece of conduit sized pipe on it for leverage and move it up 1 notch.
I use a deep well socket on a long extension. If you have a Grabber Spoiler then you need the Grabber 3/8" torsion spring because the 5/16" spring won't hold the weight
I do the same. Be careful...when you pull it off to move it up....there is A LOT of tension on it. Why are you moving it?
As it sits right now one the right side of the trunk doesn't line up with the quarters but the left side does maybe this will fix it.
I seen that my other maverick and couple other mavericks have it at the highest point. I also wanted to move it all the way to the top to see if I get more clearance for my subwoofer. I want my speaker to slide right under the torsion bar but it gets in the way right now preventing me from pushing the subwoofer forward.
If the passenger side of the trunk lid is higher than the quarter panel then raising the spring up to the next notch will make the trunk lid higher than it is now. You might want to look in using a gas spring then you can ditch the torsion spring for the extra clearance for your subwoofer.
I always thought the bar diameter was the same but when adding a Grabber spoiler you just needed to move it a notch
Here is a pic of the torsion springs side by side. The regular (2-door) Maverick spring is on the left Grabber spring is on the right.
Now that I added a Grabber spoiler to my 70 trunk lid, I guess I'll have to look for a bigger torsion bar now - thanks for the info
I think the 4dr has 2 springs, 1 adjusts from each side... with my shock the spring is at it's lowest setting.
