Does anybody know if there is a 302 aftermarket front sump oil pan with a pan mounted dip stick?
I am planning on installing a 1989 302 Mustang roller motor in my 1977 Maverick. I would like to leave the front of my 89 motor as is with the Serpentine Best set up as well as the Alternator and A/C Compressor brackets etc.
    Thanks
    John

    John,
I got the same question as you. I'm looking for a 5 qt pan that does not need to be modified. Right now, the fix I have seen is to drill a hole into the timing cover for the dip stick and then a corresponding hole in the altenator bracket too. I would like to avoid this. Also, I belive the stock Mustang pan has a low oil sensor which would have to be disabled. It would be nice to have the sensor in a retro pan if possible. Someone must be making something that works.

Summit Racing is in Reno. I need to drop by and see if they have an answer. I will let you know.

Talked with the Tech guys at Ford Racing today. To their knowledge, nobody makes a 5 quart pan with a dip stick option.
Back to square one and use the timing cover and oil pump pick up from a front sump pan motor. V- belts, here we come.
This is an option that might work for 71Mavrk as well.
    Thanks for the info guys
    John

Summitracing has a dorman timing chain cover with the oil stick hole for front sump pans, it even comes with the (plug off) for your side stick mount block. They also have oil stick tubes for that application.

    Dorman 635-107 cover
    Mildon 30720 oil pan
    Mildon 18620 pick up
Pro Form 302 -400 dip stick

The only other thing i think you might want to add to the parts list may be a (Maverick) water pump.

Keeping the serp belt set up may take a little fab, but i think i have seen some guys on this forum that have done it, i just cant remember if they had the stick in front or not.

Thank you - igoback70 - for the info and the part numbers. It is very much appreciated. I will have to swap out my water pump when I go back to v belt pully set up as my pump now goes the opposite way.

NP at all Will, i was wondering about the reverse water pump thing, wasnt that only on 1 or two years of the 5.0 stang ? Or were they all like that ? Never studied much on them.

If you went with that timing cover set up and a Mav water pump would the serp pulleys not work with it ?

all you have to do is get a timing chain cover from summit or jegs and it comes with dip stick hole , i run that set up on my 77 comet with a 87 roller moter with a serp belt rev water pump and rev fan works great
