I guess this should go here. I am going to attempt to gut my mono AM radio and put in a MP3 pre-amp stereo. I still want to use the original knob to turn it on off, and for volume control. Id like for the needle to move, but thats just a bonus. This may turn out to be a bust, but I want to give it a go. Here is where i will keep the pics and info.... http://smegnl.medina.oh.us/index.ph...:am-radio-mp3-mod&catid=35:maverick&Itemid=54
Have you seen this: http://www.mustangcountry.com/articles-mustang/radioman/home.html http://www.turnswitch.com/radio1.htm
wow...that expensive. I am not going to get FM working, just an input for my MP3 player to output stereo.
Took it apart to get to the volume/on off knob. Not having any luck finding any doco on the 40yr old potentiometer/rheostat or whatever it is.
Didn't I post a thread about this on an AM radio that was being sold on ebay that had an ipod input? I will go search. Found it: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=82375&highlight=ipod Only $65...put probably not the sound quality you are looking for.
Yes you did post it. That's what started this whole project. I wanted stereo outputs instead of mono. So if this all goes bad I am gonna blame you...
Cleaned up the radio. Gutted out a lot of parts that I (hope) wont be needed. Removed the power/volume knob from the circuit board so I can put a meter on it. Pics Here
I have a Factory Ford repair manual for a Maverick. Maybe it would have some useful info for you. Email me directly (see below) if I can help.
I am supposed to call this guy after work today. He thinks he can help me. http://www.oldradioparts.net/index.html . I dont think I can use the control though. It looks like the 3 pots are all separately controlled, and the volume part will only take one set side. I would need to run Right and Left through it.
Results not good for the volume control. I put a meter on it today. Turns out that it is indeed mono. It is three separate pots. One for power, one for volume, and one for treble. I can not run stereo thru the mono volume part. I will need to go back to the drawing board. schematic here at the bottom of the page
