    After I repair the rust, replace the shocks and leaf springs, I want to swap out the drum brakes with disc brakes. I hope to have this all done by the new year.

    Anyone know if that dark spot on the axle is a leak? I'm leaning towards tearing the rear end apart anyways.

    Thats what it looks like to me. I just took mine apart that fitting is threaded into the axle housing, mine leaked also. When I put it back together ill put some sealer on the threads.

    If you're referring to the bolt that holds the brakeline distribution block, it also doubles as a rear axle vent. The "dark stuff" is gear lube mist venting from the axle. Not an indication of problems at all, strictly normal.
