Rick is this track closer to you?...It's always great to hear about a track being saved...seems like 5 close for every one saved. I understand someone bought Darlington and is gonna reopen it soon. I'm looking forward to making a trip there.
Good news for the South and Southwest gang. Now they don't have to drive way the hell out here to test or race. Gawd I just love living five minutes from HRP.
Dudes!!! I missed this when you posted it! Great news! I had just talked to the operator of Houston Motorsports Ranch just north of Angleton, and she said that the previous owner of Angleton Dragway was trying to sell the equipment off and they might move it to County Road 48 and 288, on their ranch. I was under the impression that he was closing it for good. Glad this guy snatched it up. I need to test the numbers after all the recent work. By the way, that Ranch place is pretty nice, but it cost like $15,000/yr (yes, THOUSANDs) to join, and then monthly dues of $300, plus, currently, no spectators. They have an Indy-type track, and some pretty cool cars show up to race. The operator was thinking about buying the dragway equipment and moving it to the Ranch, but I didn't ask if I was going to have to pay membership dues to drive it (which I wouldn't) I will check the website for some opening dates. Thanks for posting the good news
(sorry for delay in reply - been outta town). There are three other tracks that are closer to me. Two 1/8th tracks (Lonestar Motorsports Park in Sealy, TX, and Houston Motorsports Park in North) and one 1/4 mile track, Houston Raceway - where the O'Reilly Spring Nationals event is held (actually in Baytown, TX). It is more convenient for me to go to the little Sealy track. That's where most of my buddies will be running (again - since they just recently re-opened also). Good luck at Darlington (and any other that you race at).
Met up with a guy at the gas station towing his drag 'Stang. He said he heard that the track may already be open, or should be opening soon. Not verified yet, but I might take a drive that direction today and check it out, get their number, etc. Also, just past the track is a brown maverick in someone's backyard....
Drove by the track today, and it still appears closed. The phone number is still disconnected, and the sign out front with "Test and Tune this Friday" has a couple of letters missing from it...not good. AND, the maverick out in Hitchcock was a 4-door grocery getter
