Just another one of those fun forum things, probably more for those of you who use your Mavs/Comets as daily drivers. With the gas price being high, well at least her in California, what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting?
Good...Bad...or horrifically low, just post it so we can compare.

Also, if its pretty good, do you know why you are getting better gas mileage?

    Thanks for all your inputs!!!

I am getting about 15 miles per gallon, that is with a 302, well its bored and i dont know the cubic inches now???

I'm really not sure how far it was bored out. I just bought the car about a month ago...he bored the engine out when he rebuilt it. I will email him and ask him. Can somebody figure out the CI if i get how much it was bored out?
    Thanks

Haha, its nothing to be ashamed of... Why is it so low... what are the dark secrets behind the ":evilsmile" that you put?

Whats the average price of gas where you are?

well mine was a daily driver back when i bought it back in 88. hasnt been for several years though, especially now that i live in the ice and snow. when ever i went to fresno or LA it would get 20mpg if i was doing around 90;):D. around town i usually got about 17 when it was the stock 2 barrel. it was about 16-17 with the overhaul, bored out 20, balanced, light cam and four barrel, but only if i kept my foot out of it. havent driven it with the new cam, heads and bigger carb enough to gauge yet but im sure that has dropped. the rear end is stock as far as i know, i changed the oil and replaced the bearings, but never pulled the case apart enough to see what gears are in there.

My '75 gets about 5 gallons per mile.

LOL, seriously though, my old '74 used to get around 20-22 on the freeway. Mild 302 with 2.79 gears/c4. That was with the original, cast piston .030" over 302 that was a fresh rebuild. Dad's old '73 4 door used to get decent mileage too, but the gauge never worked so we couldn't figure it up. We guessed around 18.

I get 18-20 around town depending on how I drive it. around 24 on the interstate depending on how fast I go. Mileage drops off sharply after 70 mph. 250 6 cylinder, C4 transmission, 3.00 rear. I'm about to put a 2.79 5 lug rear in, hope to get a little better hwy mpg since this car is getting ready to be driven about 60 miles daily on the interstate.

I would say the single best thing I ever did for my gas mileage was getting rid of the points and adding Duraspark II ignition. I'm currently running a Chevy ignition module and TFI coil (fuel injection type coil) which allows me to run a full 12 volts to everything without fear of burning anything up. The Chevy module is basically the same thing as a Ford TFI ignition module like fuel injected cars have, except it accepts an analog input which is what the Duraspark II distributor puts out.

I plan to get a MSD box and coil soon, hope to improve my mileage even more with the hotter spark.

Wow, thats alot of technical sounding stuff. But I guess it only sounds highly technical because I am a not very car savy 16 year old.
So, im punishing you because you used alot of things i dont know....
    What is TFI?(accrynym?)
As it points, do you mean the points on the starter? or are there more points?
    Hope to get an answer,
I am always looking to increase my knowledge....wow i sound brainwashed from highschool..

HAHA, right didnt catch that part... that means a drag racing car right?(sorry guys... like is said im still learning)

And if so, it isnt mean to get very good mileage... it only has to go 1/4 mile up, and 1/4 mile back!!:p
